Just a quiet day

Today was our first day fending for ourselves in the great metropolis as Jo and Ian were both back at work.  We had asked Jo last night for directions to the nearest post office so we could post Kate's figurines to her but by this morning we had those muddled! (I blame the jet-lag).  Thankfully we have got T-Mobile sims now so could rely on good old google maps and made it in the end.

Our plan had been to post the parcel, then go for a really long walk up the Strand, heading north towards (or even past) Marina Del Ray.  Sadly Grant's new shoes rubbed his foot quite badly, so we ended up coming back home for a break and some lunch (and a bit of a rest out of the hot sun!!).

After lunch we headed back out to the Strand, but headed south instead.  We walked all the way down Hermosa Beach to Redondo and the marina so we could see how far away Jo and Ian's boat is (for the record, it took us an hour and a quarter).  We went out onto the road for part of the way back, as I had to confirm something I though I saw from the car on the weekend - they have pohutukawa trees flowering at Redondo Beach!

The Strand is amazing to walk along.  It is a shared pedestrian and bike path right on the beach, and the houses along here are out of this world.  Not even winning Powerball would put them in reach!

For lease on Hermosa Beach....

...and it's view
By the time we got back to Manhattan Beach we were pretty footsore, but that didn't stop us from enjoying some delicious ice-cream at the Manhattan Beach Creamery.  They make their own ice-cream and it is yum.  Grant was very wise and had a single scoop ( the guy started dishing up a scoop that Grant would need two hands to hold, but we made him stop and do a kids cone - even that was generous!) but I saw their ice-cream sandwiches and had to try something new.  Since these consisted of two Mrs. Higgins-style chocolate chip biscuits sandwiched around an inch of home-made vanilla ice-cream, it should come as no surprise that I was unable to finish it!  Although as Jared would say, omnomnom.

Jo and I made curry for dinner, and this evening has just been a lovely quiet home night.
